When the Broken Shaker opened in January 2012, partners Gabriel Orta and Elad Zvi found success in their humble space at the Indian Creek Hotel. Hordes of patrons and industry insiders flocked there for libations made with homegrown herbs and house-made bitters. Then, in what seemed like an instant, Miami's first pop-up bar was gone.

Short Order announced in August that Orta and Zvi were bringing the Broken Shaker back to Miami. This time, however, the bar would come with a full-service restaurant featuring a menu designed to work with the cocktails that the duo was known for.

Yesterday, Gabriel Orta confirmed that chef Jeremiah Bullfrog will be the driving force behind the Broken Shaker's kitchen. Bullfrog is the chef-owner of GastroPod and Pickle People. (He had no comment when contacted by Short Order.)

The Broken Shaker's Orta and Zvi are also creating a vegetable garden with the help of Farmer Jay Pure Organics. In addition, the two are researching brewing techniques in the hopes of crafting their own beers.

The restaurant will open in November to coincide with the grand re-opening of the building that houses the restaurant/bar. Renamed Freehand Miami, this upscale hostel will feature 60 rooms that evoke a lakeside summer camp. According to a sneak peek in the New York Times, Freehand Miami will feature a swimming pool, table tennis, bicycles, and art classes in addition to the Broken Shaker.

For those of you wanting a fix of good eats before November, GastroPod is scheduled to serve dinner at two food-truck events this week. Tonight, look for GastroPod at Bayfront Nights at Bayfront Park from 5 to 9 p.m. Other trucks include Boba Station, Dolci Peccati Gelato, Grill Master Cafe, Health Nut on Wheels, Jefe's Original Fish Taco & Burgers, Latin Burger and Taco, Moty's Grill, Ms. Cheezious, the Rolling Stove, and Sugar Yummy Mama.

On Thursday, September 6, GastroPod will be at Trucking Thursdays (behind Publix on Biscayne Boulevard at NE 48th Street) from 5 to 9 p.m. Gypsy Kitchen, Ms. Cheezious, Dolci Peccati, Latin Burger and Taco, Sugar Yummy Mama, B.C. Tacos, and Dog Eat Dog will also appear.

If you're looking for a Bar Lab-created cocktail, head to Saks Fifth Avenue in Bal Harbor this Thursday, September 6, from 6 to 10 p.m. for Fashion's Night Out, during which you can partake of Bar Lab drinks, Stella Artois beer, and Shake Shack burgers.
