After almost a year hiatus, Taverna Opa has finally reopened its doors. This Monday, the former South Beach spot officially relocated to Mary Brickell Village bringing along ouzo, belly dancing, napkin throwing and plate smashing.
A grand opening celebration is sure to take place, most likely sometime in August. But an official date or plans for the grand opening have not yet been established.
Unlike the former South Beach location, you should expect a bigger and newer space with more outdoor seating, an updated sound system, extended weekend hours (the ouzo runs out at 4 a.m.), a late night dinner menu, and more belly dancers. "It will be more fun," said Kadson Borges, a spokesperson for Taverna Opa.
But nothing beats dancing on table tops and throwing napkins in the air while watching Zorba dancers smash plates against the floor, a concept that transcends throughout all Taverna Opa restaurants.
You can also celebrate your birthday or bachelorette party here. And don't forget the 2-for-1 happy hour drink special seven days a week from 3 to 8 p.m.
The Brickell location is the latest addition to the chain which has locations in Doral, Hollywood, West Palm Beach, Tampa and Orlando.
"We wanted more consistent customers instead of more tourists who come up and down with the seasons," said Borges. "We're probably going to have both locals and tourists [in Brickell] rather than just tourists."
The Greek restaurant chain also plans on expanding further north in the future, most likely in New York or Chicago.
"We have no locations set up yet, but are always looking for new venues," said Borges.
