In May we wrote about South Florida's first food swap - an event where people bring homemade foods and trade them for others. Organizer Marie Castro had heard about swaps in other parts of the country and decided to have one in Broward and then Palm Beach. This month she's bringing it to Miami.

"I've done two so far, and they have been wonderful," said Castro. "Someone even brought beer, arancini... the list goes on and on."

On the day of the event, participants bring foods made or grown at home. It can be jam, granola, bread, anything really. They have 30 minutes to mingle, 30 minutes to look around and place bids on what they want and one hour to swap. So if you make a mean kimchee or your pasta sauce is famous among your friends, make a large batch, package it and swap it for other foods for your pantry.
