Blueprints and drawings for Norman's 180, Norman Van Aken's forthcoming Coral Gables restaurant slated to open at 180 Aragon in the Colonnade Hotel in November, are now on his architect's website.
At first glance, the design itself will be a social lubricant, featuring elements conducive to sharing and interaction among diners, such as communal tables and a long bar, a focal point snaking through the main dining room.
Malcolm Berg, of Edge of Architecture, is behind the design and has
worked with hospitality clients the likes of the Ritz Carlton and
Marriott.
Another
addition to the Gables may very well be Van Aken himself, who currently
resides in Key West and lived in Pinecrest during his Norman's (on
Almeria Ave) days. He has his eyes on downtown Gables this time
around.
"We see getting a place in walking distance of N/180. I'd like to try 'Village Life' in The City Beautiful. Key West getaways," Norman writes to Short Order. "Once we get permitting/all legal stuff done we will be looking for that
Coral Gables condo. Until then Key West is still home #1."
The New World Cuisine chef is currently in town conducting meetings and doing a little market research at the likes of Sra. Martinez and Por Fin.
