Night Owl Cookie Co. Opens First Shop, Plans Caja China Cookie

Night Owl Cookie Co., the cookie delivery service that delivers freshly baked treats with names like Baked Hot Cocoa and Goodnight Kiss, has opened its first brick-and-mortar location.

The company, founded three years ago by Andrew Gonzalez, opened its first shop at 10742 SW 24th St. — conveniently located next to Florida International University's Modesto A. Maidique campus. 

Finding a niche market, the cookie entrepreneur founded Night Owl with the "for college students, by college students" mentality, starting the company out of his own kitchen. It caters mainly to the needs of FIU and University of Miami students in need of a late-night sugar rush.

Gonzalez thought it was finally time to open a permanent location after noticing steady growth in his business. “Sometimes people would call to order the cookies, and because of the high volume of orders, there would be up to a three-hour delay in delivery times,” he says. “Nobody wants to wait that long to get their cookies, so we figured by opening a store, people would be able to enjoy our cookies at their leisure."
The store offers 13 premade flavors and makes custom batches from the 30 flavors offered for delivery. Each cookie costs $2 — the same as the delivery versions. The venue will also follow the Night Owl tradition of not closing until the wee hours of the morning. At the moment, Night Owl is open from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily; Gonzalez is looking to keep the store open later in the future. Customers can still opt for cookie delivery, as always.

This one storefront isn’t it for the Night Owl expansion. Gonzalez says that in the next couple of months, another location will open in the Miami area. He has hopes of going nationwide in the future.

Also in the works are experimental cookie flavors such as a chicharrón variety called Caja China. Take that, Keebler Elves.
