"It's somewhat of a miracle," Cathy Vedovi says of the way her new endeavor, Mmmm, came about so quickly.

The cafe, located in the former Lester's space at 2519 NW Second Ave. in Wynwood, is set to open any day now. "Hopefully by the weekend," she says as she nearly avoids a head-on collision with a wood panel that's being brought into the restaurant. Vedovi said she put the space together in a little over a month.

Although workers are hustling to put the final touches on the restaurant, it already looks homey.

Bright vintage banana leaf wallpaper in various shades of green welcome you to have a set in one of the bamboo chairs and grass-colored banquettes. "I wanted Mmmm to look warm and inviting. I'm sick of sparse, modern furniture."

Mmmm will serve upscale tartines and salads, created by chef Alan McIennan. Though a menu isn't set, a meal will cost in the $12-$20 range and tartines, open faced sandwiches, will be made with high quality ingredients like filet mignon and smoked salmon. Each tartine is big enough for a meal. For dessert there's Azucar ice cream and Lavazza coffee. Mmmm will also serve wine and beers on tap.

Vedovi, who owns the Milk Shop, a sandwich shop and bakery on Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles, tells us that Mmmm will definitely be open for lunch daily and dinner from Thursday - Sundays. Breakfast will likely follow. "Can I say that we'll serve breakfast if we're here, lunch always, and dinner sometimes?" Sounds good to us.
