Chicken and waffles are a soul food combination embraced as that perfect duo for those wee hours between dinner and breakfast. In Miami, the party doesn't stop until late the next morning, so now the hungry and the hungover have a place to call home on Sunday mornings/afternoons.

We reported last week, Michy's is now open for brunch on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. We stopped by this past Sunday, for the inaugural brunch, to taste the dish we were most excited by, the buttermilk fried chicken and waffle sandwich ($18).

Michy's fried chicken is already a well-known staple in the city, but now it is placed between snuggly between two pillowy waffles. Perfect for those whose heads have yet to hit the pillow.

This sandwich has it all: the fluffiness of the waffles, the crispiness of the chicken containing tender moist meat, sweet maple syrup and cayenne spiced homemade gravy for your dipping pleasure. The sandwich also features bits of fennel fronds for a touch of freshness, in case you didn't have the chance to brush with your Tom's toothpaste yet.

The two entities of fried chicken and waffles find the perfect union in this sandwich. In fact, this brunch item will comfort you in such a sweet and savory way, you may not even need a nap after consuming it.
