Miami's Best Eats and Drinks This Weekend: Somm Screening and On-Demand Ice Cream Delivery

The rain lately has really put a damper on the usual Miami life. The morning monsoons and rush-hour flooding is truly too much to deal with. Last night, we drove downtown and strongly considered turning the car around to go back home and pick up the ol' kayak. What gives?...

The rain lately has really put a damper on the usual Miami life. The morning monsoons and rush-hour flooding is truly too much to deal with. Last night, we drove downtown and strongly considered turning the car around to go back home and pick up the ol' kayak.

What gives?

Luckily, Miami always has a way of making it up to us. She might still be crying salty tears this weekend from her most recent flavor of the month break-up, but she's always prepped to show us a good time.

So find cooking classes, dinner and a show, ice cream-summoning, and even a flick this weekend!

Somm

As of last night, you only have a few days to catch Somm for a screening at O Cinema. The wine-centric docu-comedy-drama follows the perils of four men on the road to earning a Master Sommelier Diploma. Some have described the film as watching a bunch of frat boys talk about varietals and wine regions. The film critic of the Seattle Times said, "The whole thing is much more fun than you'd imagine watching people drink would be. And by the end, you're surprisingly invested in which of the guys, if any, will pass the final test." The exam for the prestigious honor is one of the hardest in the world -- prospective Master Sommeliers have to remember hundreds of facts, aromas, fruits, regions, spanning across six continents in five different languages. It's no wonder only 200 people in the world have passed. Two, by the way, are from the Magic City. Somm will run daily until this Wednesday, July 24th.

El Hombre de las Mil Voces

You know that scene in Mrs. Doubtfire where Robin Williams is in the employment office trying to show off his skills to Ms. Selner? El Hombre de las Mil Voces, the Man of 1,000 voices, is like the same thing. Martin Russo is popular in Latin America for his celebrity impersonations. One minute he's impersonating Andrea Bocelli's impressive bravado, and the next minute he's crooning an old Luis Miguel favorite tune. Doma Polo Bistro, the Argentine spot smack in front of the AAA, will be hosting Russo for guests' entertainment while they dine tonight. The show is free to attend for those who are having dinner. Reservations are required and the show starts at 9 p.m.

Always looking for an excuse to get you to pop in, Edge Steak & Bar at the Four Seasons and Executive Chef Aaron Brooks invite you to one of his and his team's famous cooking classes. The cooking classes are held in a pop-up location of the hotel, which stays a secret until the day of. Perhaps you'll be meeting by the pool, or by the garden? Tomorrow you'll find out for sure. The interactive cooking class includes a welcome cocktail and wine and beer during class while the chefs walk you through the preparation of an array of Thai-inspired items. The class is capped to ensure the class is intimate, so hurry up and grab your spot. The price is $75 per person, exclusive of tax and gratuity. Cost includes a welcome cocktail, wine and beer, a take-home gift bag, and, of course, plenty of food.
