Happy Memorial Day weekend. This weekend is usually an epic one for Miami Beach, with thousands of people converging on our city to party. If you do plan on partying on South Beach, take a look at the city's plans on barricades, street closures, and DUI checkpoints.
Of course, there's always the all-American backyard barbecue. If grilling is in your plans, you've gotta check out our guide to the best meats and eats for Memorial Day.
Your long weekend starts now!
Beachcraft Brunch
Tom Colicchio's Miami Beach restaurant may not be fully operational, but that doesn't mean that you can't get a taste of things to come this weekend. The James Beard winner and Top Chef head judge's Beachcraft is open for weekend brunch at the 1 Hotel South Beach. On Saturday and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m., enjoy some delicious farm to table offerings including the not-to-miss blueberry cornbread with fresh peaches and whiskey syrup ($19). To die for.
Tom on Collins Chill
If you're more into farm-to-glass than farm-to-table, check out Tom on Collins, Tom Colicchio's bar at the 1 Hotel South Beach. This gorgeous chill space features living art (as in air plants and some quirky Venus fly traps) and cocktails made with local fruits, craft spirits, and herbs straight from the garden. On Friday evenings, enjoy live music. Chill was never this fresh.
Memorial Day Cookout
There's no better way to celebrate Memorial Day than to fire up the grill, crack open a few beers, and have a great time with family and friends. This year, instead of frozen patties and packaged hot dogs, opt to go upscale with your barbecue. Proper Sausages, Miami Smokers, Swine, and Yardbird all have the makings of an epic backyard event. From venison sausages to heritage pork chops to a feast already prepared for you, here's our guide to making your barbecue or picnic amazing.
Shake Shack's Specials
Miami may have wonderful beaches but we lack a good ol' boardwalk filled with hot dog and frozen custard stands. Luckily, we have Shake Shack. This weekend the Shack is celebrating all-American summers with two special Memorial Day weekend specials. Enjoy a Shack corn dog, a Vienna all-beef hot dog dipped in Shack-made corn batter, cooked golden brown and served with sweet corn relish ($4.50) and a red velvet cake concrete, vanilla frozen custard blended with a slice of red velvet cake (single $4.75/double $6.75). The offer is good at Shack Shack's Miami Beach and Coral Gables locations from Friday, May 22, through Monday, May 25 only.
Karaoke at Radio Bar
You know you love karaoke. Everyone does. After all, could there be anything more liberating than just belting out an epic version of "Summer Nights" or "Sweet Caroline" to a room full of strangers who suddenly join in as if you're a rock god? Now you can sing and enjoy quality cocktails at Radio Bar's Sunday evening karaoke party, presented by kara-o-king. From 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. every Sunday, enjoy two-for-one cocktails and draft beers while enjoying the song stylings of you! You just have to brush up on your air guitar skills between now and then.
