The weekend is here, and it's time to try all the new and notable restaurants, shops, and places in our mega Best of Miami edition. But don't let all the excitement of trying someplace new make you forget that Sunday is Father's Day — the one day a year when Dad gets treated like more than your personal Swiss bank account. Why not combine the two events and treat dad to Miami's best ice cream or even share a cocktail or two? Maybe you'll find there's a person behind that brutally ugly tie your father is wearing only because you gave it to him last Father's Day.

Weekend starts now!

Best of Miami
If you're looking for a new adventure this weekend, take a look at our 2015 Best of Miami issue. You'll find our picks for everything from Best Burger (180 Degrees at the DRB) to Best Martini (Martini Bar at the Raleigh Hotel) to Best Honduran Restaurant (El Gallito Coffee Shop).

Make a day of it by starting with our pick for Best Breakfast (Bagel Cove Restaurant & Deli) before heading to Luis Galindo's Latin American Cafeteria & Restaurant for a lunch centering on the Best Cuban Sandwich. Then you can always opt for a leisurely afternoon at our choice for Best Brunch (Mina's Mediterraneo). Then you're off to grab Miami's Best Mojito at Sugarcane Raw Bar Grill before dinner at Mignonette, Best Seafood Restaurant, which also boasts Miami's Best Chef, Danny Serfer, at its helm. (But make a reservation for this last one now. It's a busy place.)

The Lunchbox Opening Party
Carlos Dorado's tech-savvy restaurant, the Lunchbox, opens today, June 19, at 78 NW 25th St., bringing neo-traditional fare such as salads, fresh seafood, and sandwiches to Wynwood. To celebrate, the chef will host an opening party from 7 to 9 p.m. with complimentary tapas and wine. Best of all: You're invited, and you don't even need to RSVP — simply show up and enjoy.

Father's Day
Father's Day is this Sunday, June 21. Maybe you can't pay him back in one day for all the times he's given you a few bucks for gas (or school books or rent or law school tuition), but a nice brunch and a gift is a fine start to a lifetime of thank-yous. We've complied a list of Miami's best brunches for Dad that offer everything from complimentary bourbon to a bacon bonanza. Take a look here

If you're looking for a gift, put down that novelty golf tie and get your papa something he really wants — namely booze, beer, and bacon. We've come up with some presents that are sure to score points with the old man.

The Rum Line Unveils a Mural by Artist Nicole Salgar
It's been a year since Miami's bar and music scene lost Louis Salgar. A talented musician and bartender, Salgar was killed inside his home by a 51-year-old man looking for money for drugs, according to the Miami Police Department. Salgar might be gone, but he's far from forgotten. His sister Nicole has worked diligently to keep his spirit alive through community gatherings and her art. Her latest work, a mural for the Rum Line, will be officially revealed this Sunday, June 21, from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Salgar's inspiration for the mural was both the history of Florida's bootlegging past and her brother's love for Miami. "Louis wanted to contribute to the growth of this city positively in the way he knew how — by bartending and bringing joy to people through music — and now I'm doing the same, using my talent as an artist,” Salgar says. The mural will feature vibrant and tropical expressions, evoking a sense of vintage Miami.

The reception is open to the public, and attendees can enjoy a complimentary coastal seafood broil, perfect for pairing with a few of the bar's cocktails, which were recently named Miami's best by New Times. A portion of the night’s proceeds will go to the Louis Salgar Fund, a charity founded by Nicole that provides scholarships to underprivileged youths for education in vocational trades such as music and bartending.
