Miami Children's Hospital is South Florida's only licensed free-standing specialty hospital exclusively for children. Founded in 1950, the not-for profit 289-bed hospital is world-renowned, with several specialty programs ranked among the best in the nation in the 2012-13 rankings by U.S.News & World Report. What that means is if you have a kid who needs medical care, you've got one less thing to worry about.

But, like any non-profit, the hospital is constantly on a mission to raise money and awareness with fundraising events like the third annual Hyundai Hope on Wheels Miami Children's Hospital 5K. The race starts at Coral Gables City Hall this Saturday, September 21 at 7:30 a.m. and loops through the city beautiful. Last year, over 3,500 participants raised more than $450,000 for the hospital.

This year, they hope to raise more and Eating House is committed to helping them achieve their goal. Chef-owner Giorgio Rapicavoli and staff have formed Team Eating House and they're inviting everyone to join the team -- or at least donate to the cause.

So far, there are about 20 people on Team Eating House, with about $1,280 raised so far. Rapicavoli told Short Order that he picked up running about a year ago. "That's what gave me the boost to form Team Eating House. But all-in-all, MCHF is a great cause right here in Coral Gables that helps out our local kids. What's better than that? The whole staff is in and we're pumped to do it."

To sweeten the pot, everyone who runs the race will receive a free Tang Mimosa at Sunday's Eating House brunch -- just show your race number for your free drink. Then, why not stay for the Wakin-N-Bacon brunch? After all -- you've already burned off the calories.

Registration for the race is $35 and includes a t-shirt. The hospital also asks that you raise at least $100 (but it's not mandatory). If you're busy (or lazy) you have no excuse, because there's also a "virtual race" where you stay home and just picture running in your mind.
