True story.

During my visit, I wanted my burger cooked medium or rare. But that wasn't an option. At JR's, patrons can only order this burger medium-well or well-done.

After all, this was a stuffed patty. I understood the restriction was for my own health.

When the burger arrived, it had an unassuming appearance. Then I examined its insides. I discovered crunchy bits of bacon, oozing cheese, and pink, juicy beef. The char on the meat and the cornmeal on the bun added great texture.

The sweet potato fries were among the best I've ever had. Dusted with cinnamon and brown sugar, they had a crunchy exterior and a soft center. It was like fall inside your mouth.

On that day, the guy sitting next to me ordered the burger of the month. It was called the Monster ($7.99).

This colossal burger was stuffed with lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, cheddar cheese, and "special monster sauce" -- described as a ketchup-and-mayo sauce on steroids.

My neighbors indulged in two one-pound Monster burgers ($10.99). As if the above weren't enough, they also added fried eggs and bacon. When their dishes arrived, I took a peek. The meat was distributed among two enormous patties. These burgers were huge.

Monster or no monster, JR's burgers are seriously amazing.
