The fifth annual Iron Fork competition, set for October 18 at Grand Central, has a new chef lineup for its featured competition. In it, two of Miami's top chefs battle in a gladiator-style competition of wits and skill using knives, fire, and raw meat as their weapons of choice. Only one will remain victorious and be crowned the Iron Fork 2012 champion.

Phillip Bryant, chef de cuisine at Yardbird Southern Table & Bar, will face off against Blue Collar chef/owner Danny Serfer in this
ultimate battle for the title. Bryant is replacing Kenny Gilbert, who
was scheduled to represent Swine Southern Table & Bar. Yesterday,
Short Order reported that Gilbert has departed the soon-to-open
Swine.
Allen Susser, Iron Fork's chef curator, has
just confirmed Bryant's participation in the event. Bryant, who
began working in the industry at the age of 15, is Jeff McInnis's right hand at Yardbird and is in charge of the day-to-day operations of
the popular South Beach establishment. Previously, Bryant worked at
several of Norman Van Aken's restaurants, including Norman's 180 in Coral
Gables.
Iron Fork will also include a food truck competition
in which Palate Party's Robyn Almodovar will compete against Alfredo Montero from Mr.
Good Stuff. Also expect live music, an open bar, and food from nearly 40 of Miami's
best restaurants. The event will take place from 7 to 10 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. for VIP ticket-holders, who enjoy an extra hour of food and drink.
General-admission tickets cost $40 in advance ($50 at the door); VIP tickets are $70 in advance ($80 at the door). Click here to purchase tickets.
