It's Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day: What Would Jesus Eat?

This past Wednesday, August 1, Mike Huckabee announced a new holiday -- National Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day.

The former governor and political pundit called for people who were concerned about the possible loss of traditional family values and free speech to eat at the national chain that features fried chicken sandwiches, cows that spell phonetically and Christian values.

This past Wednesday, Chick-fil-A was barraged by tens of thousands of people lining up to purchase fast food in a show of solidarity. The company has not released sales figures, but Steve Robinson, executive vice president of marketing did issue a statement that said, "We are very grateful and humbled by the incredible turnout of loyal Chick-fil-A customers on August 1 at Chick-fil-A restaurants around the

country. While we don't release exact sales numbers, we can

confirm reports that it was a record-setting day."

In a strange aside, Mike Huckabee somehow thinks Facebook has a

Christian-wary virus..or something. On his Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day Facebook page, Huckabee issued the following statement:

Yesterday,

tens of thousands of people across this country were lining up and

joining in to Support Chick fil-A, (committing to take part in the

August 1st Appreciation Day), and as momentum was growing at a record

pace, something interesting happened...All of the sudden, EVERYTHING

related to Chick fil-A Appreciation Day disappeared from Facebook!

That's right in one big flash it was gone like the Eiffel Tower during a

David Copperfield Show and then 12 hours later we were back in business

like nothing ever happened.

Well it seems we caught a 12

hour bug, apparently it hits when large numbers of Christians support

something and post about it on Facebook! Have you heard about this bug?

We still aren't sure why it happened, we have been told by Facebook "it

was a mistake", clearly we think it was a mistake too but aren't so

convinced it was an accident.

Could it be we were attacked

because of our beliefs? Could it be that Facebook has a glitch in their

system with a VERY NARROW target? Who knows if we will ever know for

sure, but one thing we do know for sure is that we are back up and

running and we need your help to keep this going. We have one week until

Chick fil-A Appreciation Day and that is a long time to get others

involved. Don't stop inviting your friends, tell them why it is

important to you and get them on board. So we got knocked down, but hey!

WE ARE BACK UP!"

In any event, if you didn't get the

chance to eat at Chick-fil-A (or didn't want to), there's another event

scheduled for this evening. Today, at 8

p.m., same-sex couples are planning to walk into their local Chick-fil-A

and share a kiss. As the National Same-Sex Kiss Day Facebook page states:

"Let's show Chick-fil-A that EVERYONE deserves to be able to fall in

love, start a family, and take their children to eat fried chicken after

a soccer match."

You're also encouraged to take a picture and share it on the "Kiss Day" Tumblr page.

Kiss day is being organized by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against

Defamation (GLAAD), in answer to Wednesday's show of solidarity to the company.

There are four Chick-fil-A locations in Miami-Dade (Dadeland Mall, Doral, Miami Lakes, and on campus at FIU). If you plan to go to any of the locations for kiss day, let us know in the comments field or on our Facebook page.
