It's official: The Girl Scouts' most popular cookie is now vegan-friendly. For the first time, Thin Mints are entirely free of animal products.

Little Brownie Bakers, the Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida's kitchen of choice, reformulated the recipe ahead of this year's cookie season. As soon as sales kick off tomorrow, January 13, you can snag the chocolatey, minty treats from an adorable youngster near you.

So why did they decide to veganize everyone's favorite cookie? According to Eve Prada, product sales director for the Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida, it was all about demand.

"Each year, we ask for feedback from customers and volunteers about how the Girl Scout cookies can be improved or what new flavors they might be interested in," Prada says.

"Based upon this feedback, surveys, and focus groups, the Little Brownie Bakers reformulated the Thin Mints to make them appealing to everyone, as it is America's most popular Girl Scout cookie flavor, but also for those who choose a vegan diet."

It's worth noting that in some other parts of the country, the Girl Scouts contract with a different baker: ABC. These locations offer four varieties of vegan cookies, including Thanks-A-Lot, Lemonades, and Peanut Butter Patties, in addition to Thin Mints. In South Florida, Thin Mints are the only vegan option for now, but that's still pretty awesome.

In South Florida, cookies are available in eight flavors: Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Do-si-dos, Savannah Smiles, and two new flavors: Rah-Rah Raisins and gluten-free Toffee Tastics. Booth sales kick off tomorrow and run through February 16, and all cookies cost $4 per box (except Toffee Tastics, which are $5 per box). Visit GirlScoutsFL.org for more info, and use the cookie finder app to find booths near you.
