The first annual Downtown Miami Wine and Food Festival is this Sunday, January 22nd, and event promoters are keeping it as local as they can.
The festival starts at 1 p.m. at Brickell's Central Park Miami. VIP ticket holders will enjoy an additional hour of tastings at noon. The event features wine tastings (available until 4 p.m.), cooking demonstrations by Johnson and Wales University faculty members and live musical performances by Performance Arts Exchange.
The event features downtown-area restaurants; this was finally made possible due to the recent surge of restaurants recently
opening in the area. Participating restaurants include:
- Brickell Bier Garden
- Dolores, But You Can Call Me Lolita
- Crazy About You
- Chophouse Miami
- Baru Urbano
- The Oceanaire
- Jimmy'z Kitchen
- Edge Steak and Bar
- Mare Nostrum
- Off The Hookah
- Johnson & Wales University
General
admission is $75 and includes wine and spirits samplings and $10 worth
of off food tasting tickets. VIP lounge admission is $150 and includes a
VIP reception from noon-1 p.m., wine and spirits samplings, and $10 in
food tasting tickets.
A portion of proceeds will benefit the Jorge Posada Foundation, which provides support and awareness for children with
Craniosynostosis, a condition that occurs when an infant's sutures fuse
too early and it affects the growth of the brain. Often, the end result
is an infant with an abnormally shaped head. Crainosynostisis affects
about one out of every 2,000 babies born. The foundation was founded by the legendary Yankee catcher, who retired this year, because his son suffers from the disease.
