The South Miami location of Deli Lane Cafe & Tavern is an ideal locale for a Sunday brunch. The casual and unpretentious atmosphere embodies what lazy Sundays are all about. Even when the weather is good, the wait for a table at the height of the brunch hour is just a few minutes. A peek at the menu reveals numerous worthy selections.

On a recent visit, we honed in on two. Zola's omelet ($9.95) contains smoked nova, dill, portabello mushrooms, and havarti The omelet is as stuffed as can be with a well-balanced choice of ingredients.

Kitty's hash ($9.95) is a "grilled

concoction," according to the menu's description, with potato,

onion, two poached eggs, and your choice of corned beef or turkey. I

chose corned beef. Overall, it was not too

salty, not grilled too long, and wasn't dry. My only complaint: the poached eggs were over-poached to the point that the yolks

were dry and crumbly. With this traditional dish, one looks forward

to breaking poached eggs open and letting the yolks run wild through

the hash.

Each selection comes with your choice

of potatoes, grits, or tater tots. Not to push the

starches or anything, but you also have a choice between an English

muffin or toast, which comes lightly toasted and with butter on the side. There are also little packages of jelly on

the table.

Service isn't luxurious, but doesn't

need to be. If you're in the mood for a casual meal, a welcoming

outdoor setting, and a breakfast or brunch that will fill you up at a reasonable price then Deli Lane fits the

bill.

Deli Lane Cafe & Tavern is open

Sunday to Monday 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Tuesday to Thursday 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and

Friday and Saturday 7 a.m. to midnight.
