Coral Gables Restaurant Week ends this Sunday and we've put together a small roundup for you. We were invited to try the three-course, prix-fixe menu at three restaurants. They varied in both cuisine and price range... and we also ventured to several others. Here are our top three suggestions.
Enjoy!
Ortanique (Miami New Times' Best Restaurant Coral Gables 2012) serves gourmet Caribbean cuisine. Portions are small, but taste is big. Plus, decor is lovely and service is above average.
Pat's Caicos Island Conch & Corn Fritters
Scallions, holland & scotch bonnet peppers, red onion, Carib Beer, and roasted pepper coulis
Crispy Polenta Cake
Calabaza squash, roasted tomato, mushrooms, spinach, goat cheese, and carrot ginger sauce
Leopard Brownie a la Mode
Ortanique's prix fixe lunch menu costs $25 per person and its prix fixe dinner menu, offering larger portions of the lunch menu, costs $39 per person.
Christy's is now celebrating its 35th year in business. For a restaurant to succeed in Coral Gables that long, means that it is definitely doing something right. Decor, service, and food were flawless.
Black Bean Soup
(with a shot of sherry)
Bay Leaf Basted Outer Bank Scallops
Braised leeks and ginger soubise
Homemade Key Lime Pie
Dinner $35 per person. No prix-fixe lunch available.
La Taberna Giralda has been transformed by its new owners, the Pino family. In just eight short months, La Taberna Giralda has blossomed, serving some of the best tapas and authentic Spanish cuisine, and personable service.
Tortilla Española
Traditional egg and potato omelette
Carbonera a la Flamenca
Beef tenderloin and potatoes cooked in a dark beer sauce accompanied with slices of bread with a mustard base spread
Frixuelos Relleno de Crema de Naranja (switched out from dinner menu)
Spanish crepe filled with a light orange cream and drizzled with caramel or chocolate
Lunch menu costs $13.95 per person. Dinner costs $25 per person.
