Screw turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving. Take your family to Burger King instead. The Miami-based firm recently rolled out a BK Family Bundle. For just ten bucks (12 bucks in Hawaii), you can feed your family with a Whopper, a Whopper Jr., two small French fries, two small soft drinks, and a kids' meal. Double that order and you can get seconds.
Interesting to see a family meal deal was introduced by the burger giant so close to Thanksgiving, when in-laws historically converge to feed their faces with succulent turkey meat, stuffing, mashed potatoes, casseroles galore, and pumpkin pie. Will it help the talk of sports, relationships, and O-bam-a? Or will it make it just another day?
One assistant manager at a BK in Miami who goes by the name of Nubia has worked 25 years with the company. It is the second year BK will be open for Thanksgiving. (They close at 6 p.m.) "We're really slow Thanksgiving," says Nubia, who doesn't want her last name revealed because she says she is not authorized to speak for Burger King.
Lots of families come for breakfast, she says.
According to research conducted by the National Restaurant Association, 30 million Americans will eat at restaurants for Thanksgiving. Nothing equals America more than Thanksgiving and burgers.
It would have been nice to talk with someone from corporate, but they never seem to call back. After three calls to the public relations department, a representative finally emailed details of the promotion. The Family Bundle was launched in conjunction with BK's Crown program for kids November 7, according to a representative, and it lasts only until December 4.
Couldn't they serve turkey burgers? Wait, this isn't school lunch.
Could families substitute a traditional turkey dinner for a Burger King one?
"Sure! Why not?" says Nubia, cracking a smile.
