A woman set herself on fire in an apparent suicide attempt at the Mall of Americas this afternoon sometime before 4. The Miami Herald reports she walked into the Savage Boutique drenched in gasoline and lit herself on fire. On-the-scene Twitterers say the attempted self-immolation occurred at Ross.
A person at the scene tried to put out the fire by pushing her to the ground, while others grabbed fire extinguishers. She then ran outside, where firefighters found 75 percent of her body covered in burns. She's reportedly at the Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.
Many recorded instances of self-immolation tend to be political in nature, though that might not be the motivation here.
