Yeah, that was us.
Last month, we teamed up with the Cleveland Scene to collect Northeast Ohio's unwanted LeBron jerseys and other paraphernalia and distribute them to sub-tropical homeless. The jerseys were rejected by the Miami Coalition for the Homeless due to "politics"-- but NewTimes has never been deterred by politics, or political correctness.
We sojourned from North Miami to Coconut Grove bequeathing booty to the homeless. More than 100 items were handed out. Pierogies -- the Cleveland favorite -- were served from the trunk of a '98 Toyota. Channel 10 showed up for a bit. Our own documentary short, feature story, and a slideshow for the ages are all in the works. We're going multimedia on that "23"-adorned ass.
We're still accepting donations and will probably be distributing extra stuff for months. As one recipient of a brand-new wine-colored home jersey told us: "Why wouldn't we want them? We're homeless."
Duh. While we're not looking to steal our own thunder, here are a few teaser photos from what can only be described as the greatest journalistic collaboration since Woodward and Bernstein.
