Is the Florida government about to enter a fray that already includes the NCAA and the University of Miami? State Senator Joe Abruzzo, a Democrat from Wellington, sure hopes so. He's written a letter to state Attorney General Pam Bondi asking her to investigate the NCAA.
"NCAA Enforcement Staff violated its own rules and engaged in corrupt behavior in an attempt to manufacture misdeeds against the University of Miami," writes Abruzzo. "In so doing, the NCAA has demonstrated a lack of institutional control and may have engaged in unfair trade practices in violation of Florida's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act (FDUTPA), Chapter 501, Florida Statutes. Since your office is the enforcing authority of FDUTPA, I am requesting that the NCAA's admitted wrongdoing be investigated immediately before the NCAA's witch hunt against the University of Miami causes further damage."
Eric Holder, the U.S. Attorney General, was also CC'ed on the letter.
In case you're wondering: No, Abruzzo isn't a UM grad. He graduated from Lynn University in 2003.
Bondi has yet to respond.
