Here's Miami Schools Superintendent Rudy Crew on Monday's ">News and Notes, a nationally syndicated radio show broadcast on National Public Radio and locally on WLRN-FM (91.3):
"In Miami for example, we have the Latin Builders Association, (which) provides everything from bicycles for youngsters at the holiday season to knapsacks for every youngster starting school…"
Problem is, that's a bunch of hooey. The LBA did a really good thing this year. It gave out 1000 backpacks loaded with school supplies at four schools that serve poor kids, according to spokeswoman Francis Bolanos . But that ain't every kid. Not even near it. "No, no, no," says Bolanos.
The other problem is that everyone from the press except Daniel Shoer Roth of El Nuevo Herald and Francisco Alvarado of Miami New Times, seem to have forgotten about all the lawsuits and many problems that Mr. Crew has caused Dade taxpayers -- or his statement that the "Cubans are the enemy."
