The last web-only attack ad against Democratic candidate for governor Alex Sink by the Republican Party of Florida sucked big time. This one, however is pretty damn great, even if it takes things seriously out of context.
The ad takes footage from Sink's recent press conference to discuss her "CFO Depot" program that aims to ease wasting money on government office supplies. She thinks the slightly quirky program could save the state $14 million a year.
"Florida has nearly 1.1 million people out of work and we're counting paperclips? What about jobs?" the ad asks.
Well, as CFO, Alex Sink is directly responsible for how the state government spends money, but her duties have little to do with creating jobs. You know who might be more responsible for the fact that 1.1 million Floridians are out of work? The Republican Governors of the past decade and the Republican controlled legislature.
So at first glance it's a pretty funny ad, but if you think about it, it doesn't exactly prove much of a point.
Oh, and by our rough estimate, those 402,419 paper clips equal a savings of about $3,374.95.
