A little after noon, some serious storms blew through South Beach and the rest of Miami. I was in my apartment on Meridian Avenue at the time and it was a hellacious thunderstorm -- 60 mph winds, about an hour straight of hail, palm fronds flying through the air. The whole works.
Still, it was a shock to walk out my front door around 5:30 p.m. to find nearly two feet of water coursing through the streets. May was one of the wettest months on record, and metereologists are saying that more than a foot of water fell on SoBe this afternoon. Clearly, the drainage systems are overwhlemed.
