Our weekend lacked any tropical storm activity, but it was still plenty hot and humid. Are we the only ones looking forward to the cooler winter temperature? You know, the time of year when you brag to your friends to the north how you are still wearing shorts?

Weather aside, it was still an active weekend, and here is what you missed:

Irvine Welsh at Books & Books

John Hood

We weren't surprised to learn that the author of Trainspotting Irvine Welsh lives in Miami for a few months out of the year. If we grew up in the drab environment of Scotland, we'd be clamoring to get out too. So is it that surprising that the Magic City serves as the source of inspiration for his latest novel Crime? Carl Hiaasen probably isn't pleased. Click here to read our recap of the night.

L.A. Riots at The Vagabond

Justin Namon

The Vagabond kicked off its fall season with a bang by booking the Los Angeles duo L.A. Riots. Their set has hard and dirty, keeping the venue packed until closing time. Click here to view the full slideshow.

Mates of State at Culture Room

So much for distance making the heart grow fonder. Jason Hammel and Kori Gardner, the husband-and-wife duo better known as Mates of State, performed at Fort Lauderdale's Culture Room Friday night. Click here for our review.

Earthdance Miami 2008 at Soho Studios

Jipsy

Hemp jewelry jokes aside, Earthdance Miami sought to bring awareness of the issues that effect us as a global community. Click here to view the full slideshow.

Clifton Childree's DREAM-CUM-TRU at Locust Projects

Logan Fazio

Clifton Childree's latest exhibit at Locust Projects left us pretty satisfied. Dildos, poop humor and enormous balls were enough to get us giggling like immature children. Click here for the full slideshow.

Right Gin Event at Mokai

Johnny Louis

After being named beautiful but dumb by Travel + Leisure, we didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Then we realized who wants to ugly and smart anyway? Mokai doesn't check your IQ at the door, but they do expect exterior perfection. Click here for the full slideshow.

Finch at Culture Room

Recently reunited Los Angeles band Finch stopped by Culture Room Sunday night much to our delight. The opening bands, however, we could have done without. Click here for our review.
