Charlie Crist's made his first appointment to the Florida Supreme Court today, and our newest Justice, Charles Canady, has a history of pissing off Democrats in a big way.
Canady served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1984 to 1990. Originally he was elected as a Democrat, but shortly after his 1986 reelection he changed parties. Whoops! The party traitor had already accepted Democratic money for his reelection. Dems got pissed, but he served in the Florida house until an unsuccessful run for the State Senate in 1990. Two years later he was elected to represent Florida's 12th congressional district up in the Capitol building. While there he was appointed one of the managers of the "Let's impeach the president because he lied about a beej" affair. He declined to run for another Congressional term in 2000 because he had pledged to only serve five terms.
Back in Florida he served as general counsel to Gov. Jeb Bush, and was an an appellate court judge with the 2nd District Court of Appeal. His latest appointment fills one of two openings on the court.
