We already know that LeBron James will be the cover athlete and has had some creative input for the upcoming NBA 2K14 video game, but Yahoo! Sports reports today that the game will have a surprise feature. Players will be able to play a storyline that imagines how LeBron's career will play out until his retirement.
One of those allows you to keep James on the Heat for the rest of his career. The other takes LeBron to the New York Knicks.
Developers 2K Sports stresses that while LeBron did sign off on the basic idea, he didn't help create the story lines. So there's no indication he wants to, say, actually join the Knicks in the summer of 2014 (something that seems highly unlikely anyway).
The Heat dynasty mode imagines James leading the Heat for the next ten years all while fending off challenges from a surprisingly upstart Cleveland Cavaliers lead by an imagine future player who calls himself "King John," and a Dallas Mavericks that has signed Chris Bosh away from Miami.
The Knicks option imagines that somehow LeBron James and Kobe Bryant end up in New York along with Chris Paul, Kenneth Faried and Vince Carter.
Yahoo! Sports doesn't mention what that imagine fate of both Dwayne Wade and LeBron's hairline are in this dystopian future.
Well, we all know that the media buzz surrounding LeBron's free agency option next summer would be deafening, we just didn't expect it to actually play out in a video game.
