A few months ago, New Times chronicled the world of Miami's "sugar babies," women who date rich older men with the expectation of receiving money and gifts in exchange. And while that's certainly ethically questionable, at least those women are adults. A Miami man was arrested after he traveled to a park in Pembroke Pines in hopes of procuring the services of a 15-year-old sugar baby in exchange for an iPhone, some gift cards, and a bit of pot. Instead, he was met by police.

According to the Sun-Sentinel, Miami man Raul Alejandro Torres, 34, posted an online ad titled "Sugahdaddi 4Sugahbaybe 34(FLL)." Though it's not clear that Torres was specifically looking for an underage girl, a Pembroke Pines detective responded to the ad in the guise of a 15-year-old girl. Police say Torres was made well aware that his imaginary chat partner was underage. "Age is just a number," he reportedly told the undercover detective.
The detective made arrangements with Torres to meet at a park. The arrangement would involve Torres buying an iPhone 5 for the girl and providing $400 upfront and then paying her an allowance of $600 a week for her continued services and companionship. He also promised pot. Which led to this amazing sentence in the Sun-Sentinel:
He also promised to bring condoms and "420," which police say is slang for cannabis, police said.
Oh, so that's what that means! Glad the police could fill us in.
When Torres arrived, he was met by police. They found the phone, four gift cards worth $100, and a small amount of pot.
He was charged with using a computer and traveling to meet a minor for unlawful sexual conduct; possession of cannabis under 20 grams; and violation of probation. He was not offered bond because of his probation violation.
