Yesterday, Honest Tea, a beverage brand owned partially by Coca-Cola, set up kiosks across 12 cities in America stocked with chilled bottles of its iced tea. Though, instead of an actual cashier, the company only placed a clear plastic box near the center with a sign asking for a dollar in exchange for the drink. Hidden video cameras were then set up to determine how honest people actually were. Ninety-two percent of Miamians paid for their drink. Which sounds good but is actually near the bottom of the spectrum.
Here's the honesty percentage of all 12 cities:
City | Percentage |
Chicago | 99 |
Boston | 97 |
Seattle | 97 |
Dallas | 97 |
Atlanta | 96 |
Philadelphia | 96 |
Cincinnati | 95 |
San Francisco | 93 |
Miami | 92 |
Washington, D.C. | 91 |
Los Angeles | 88 |
New York | 86 |
Well, hey, at least we're more honest than the capitals of government, the entertainment industry, and banking. Which, well, maybe isn't that much of an accomplishment.
Here's video of the great social experiment/marketing stunt:
