Philippe Archer, the Miami Beach Police detective who has demonstrated a flair for beating the shit out of people and is now the subject of three lawsuits, has been relieved of duty.

Riptide first broke news last week that Archer was manhandling Megan Adamescu, a 29-year-old model, who was heavily intoxicated at the time. Archer was in plainclothes at the time, and Adamescu says he never showed her a badge (though another witness refutes that claim). Adamescu was left with a concussion and a black eye.

Andrew Mossberg saw the incident, and not knowing that Archer was an officer, got involved. He was left with several contusions to his face.

At least three people claim they were beaten and wrongly arrested by the undercover cop and have filed lawsuits. The FBI's public corruption unit is also investigating Archer.

Under pressure from Mayor Matti Herrera Bower, MBPD has now relieved Archer of duty.

Here's a statement released to Local 10:

As a result of the ongoing joint investigation of Miami Beach Case: 2013-71647 between the FBI and the Miami Beach Police Department. Effective immediately Detective Philippe Archer has been relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of the investigation. The Miami Beach Police Department takes all allegations of officer misconduct seriously and will ensure that a full and thorough review of the incident in question is conducted.
