Perhaps the only thing more deplorably than holding up a Boy Scout trying to raise funds for his troop at gunpoint is doing the same to a Girl Scout, but then at least you'd get some Thin Mints and Tagalongs. A man who robbed a 12-year-old Boy Scout down in the Keys only walked away with $40 and some coupon books.
According to KeysInfo, the incident happened last Friday at about 6:30 p.m in New Town. The 12-year-old scout was going door-to-door to businesses trying to sell his coupon books when the culprit pointed "black, semi-automatic gun" at him and demanded the money.
The man made off with $40 and the coupon books, but apparently didn't have interest in saving money. Police found the books a few blocks away.
The man is described as white, about six-feet tall, in his mid-20s and with short black hair and light eyes.
He was wearing a treasure coin around his neck (but what man in the Keys doesn't?) and a class ring (only surprising, because who would have thought someone reduced to robbing a Boy Scout would actually graduate from anything).
He was wearing a "biker-style" vest over a red shirt with dark jeans. Anyone with information is asked to call (800) 346-TIPS.
