All the other potential Democrats with wet dreams of Senate subcommittee hearings are waiting until the mighty Alex Sink (mighty because she is one of two Dems who can get elected in this state) decides if she's going to run for governor or senator or Florida's first galactic empress. Not Rep. Kendrick Meek, who is widely expected to announce his intention to run for Senate at a press conference tomorrow morning in Miami Gardens.

Meek, of course, has a nice safe Congress seat, which he could probably leave to his first-born son in his will, much like Meek scored the seat after his mother retired to become a lobbyist. This also means he has never actually had to run a real campaign. Banana Republican Francisco Alvarado dug up the expense reports from Meek's 2008 re-election. He spent $1,120 at Spirits Nightclub, $6,612 at the Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, and $2,875 at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino. He's been an above-average representative, but we hope Meek knows that running for Senate won't be the cakewalk that retaining his house seat has been.
