And in other news.... Dwyane Wade is still pretty amazing.
The Miami Heat took the 99-90 Game 1 win over the Boston Celtics in their Eastern Conference Semi-final hoedown.
D-Wade dropped 38 points, James Jones added a career playoff high 25 off the bench, and Paul Pierce was ejected with seven minutes remaining in regulation.
That's right. May 1, 2011 will forever be remembered as the day Paul Pierce's doucheyness finally caught up with him.
The Heat led by as many as 19 points. But because douche is not easily destroyed, the Celtics came roaring back, led by Ray Allen's 22. But for every run the Cs had in them, Miami answered with a run of their own, never trailing in the entire game after the Celtics took a brief 10-9 lead early in the first.
As it has always been between these two teams, things were chippy throughout, with players giving each other hard fouls and saying nasty things about each other's mamas.
Paul Pierce got into it with James Jones and D-Wade on separate occasions and was sent to the showers early by the refs after driving a shoulder into Wade and then screaming obscenities at him mere minutes after his brouhaha with J.J.
Between the Celtics' endless buckets of douche, their ousting of the Heat in last year's playoffs and their playoff history with LeBron James when he was in Cleveland, it's kind of shocking these teams didn't take to smashing aluminum chairs across each other's heads. But it's only Game 1 of a best-of-seven series, so you never know.
For his part, Wade brushed off the physical fouls and verbal taunts and did that thing where he waylays people's balls with his awesomeness, going 14-for-21 and showing that his struggles against Boston earlier this season were just flukes. Wade was worse against Boston than against any other opponent this season, averaging a paltry 12.8 points in their four regular season matchups.
But D-Wade is not going to let something as inconsequential as 28 percent shooting in four games get in the way of his dreams of demolishing some Boston ass. And so he came out swinging his shit, dropping buckets at the buzzer, and diving into the crowd for loose balls like he was shot out of one of those t-shirt cannons.
By halftime, he had 23 points all on his own while the entire Celtics starting lineup had 21.
"We're going to have to fight for every inch, every game we get," Wade told reporters afterwards. "Right now, we won Game 1. We're supposed to. We'll go back and focus on winning Game 2. We're at home, we have home-court advantage. They're just trying to come in and steal one like they've done in the past. So it's our job to come out with the same mentality in the next one."
Awesome never sleeps.
Neither does douche.
