One morning the executives at rapidly growing appliance superstore chain hhgregg woke up and realized that their name was really stupid they didn't have any stores in South Florida. Rather than quietly work their way into the market, the company has decided to simultaneously open ten new stores in the area, and that means jobs. Six hundred to be exact.

The oddly named big box chain specializes in home appliances and electronics and has been quickly expanded in the down market, often moving into former locations of other big box stores.

The company is set to open 10 stores in South Florida in Aventura, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Hialeah, Pembroke Pines, Pinecrest, Sawgrass, Treasure Coast Mall, Wellington and West Palm Beach.

The Aventura store will open in the building recently left empty by Borders book store, just north of the Aventura Mall. The Hialeah store, set to open as early as June, will move into the space vacated by Office Max in the Westland Promenade Shopping Center. The Pinecrest store will open in a strip mall off US-1, rather close to a Best Buy.

All those new stores mean new jobs, and the company is looking to fill 600 positions in the area.

"As we expand operations in Southeastern Florida by entering the Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties, now is an exciting time to join the hhgregg team," said Dennis L. May, President and CEO, in a release. "There are many exciting opportunities at hhgregg for motivated individuals looking to grow with our company."
