Don't worry guys, a beloved sports figure of the utmost integrity has finally spoken up and lent his support to our perhaps unfairly vilified LeBron James. Oh, wait, just kidding, it's Alex Rodriguez.
"Sometimes I feel so bad for him," Rodriguez said this morning on ESPN New York's The Michael Kay Show. "I feel like I feel his pain more than anybody. LeBron is definitely under the microscope. He is going to be judged on whether he wins a championship. So, yeah, I'm really hoping he gets this one behind him and I'm cheering for the Heat, but '09 was a career changer for me."
Thank you, baseball's most hated player (OK, actually second most hated player) for speaking up for basketball's most hated player. This will surely turn public support around.
Rodriguez, a Miami-native and, for reasons only money can explain, a trustee of the University of Miami, has a history of sticking up for LeBron.
"Winning a championship is not an easy thing to do regardless of talent. LeBron is a once in a lifetime player, especially the last year," he told Fox News last year. "We need to remember this kid is 26 years old, and celebrate his talent."
We're not sure if A-Rod and LeBron are undergoing the exact same kind of pain though. There's good reason to hate Rodriguez. He's an admitted steroid user. LeBron meanwhile uses dissolvable, caffeinated energy strips. Sort of a big difference. A-Rod is also banging different Hollywood blondes every other month, and has a two portraits of himself depicted as a centaur. LeBron is engaged to his high school sweetheart and once carried a man purse. A-Rod made a $29 million salary this year. LeBron made $16 million.
Then again, they both have a habit of disappearing in the post-season, so we guess he might understand that part of the pain.
