The Bruise Cruise Kick-off Party is tonight at Grand Central, and while we're totally stoked about the nine-act line-up including Thee Oh Sees, Black Lips, and Surfer Blood, we're a little bummed Vivian Girls' Katy Goodman didn't talk to us. We were so close.
We met Goodman last November during Miami Music Festival (MMF). She and her band were killing time before their set at Gemma, and we struck up a pointless conversation about overpriced booze, strict door policies, the future of MMF, and things of that nature. Shortly thereafter, they played a dope a set for an admittedly small crowd, and went on to explore South Beach into the wee hours of the morning after wrapping up.
Fast-forward a few months. Goodman's popularity has skyrocketed. Her side project, La Sera, has gained national attention from mainstreamers like the Washington Post and AOL Spinner, and rightfully so.
The band's debut album is an indie pop delight, stuffed with delicious harmonies, and delivered in a 1960s girl group time machine. They just returned from Europe, where they played a string of shows, and they're hitting the road with Tennis and Dum Dum Girls in March.
On top of that, Vivian Girls have a new record out in April, kicking off a tour in North Carolina on April 5.
Goodman is busy, we totally see that. But all we wanted was a few minutes with her via Twitter. Unfortunately, our own impatience may have cost us. This is how it went down:
Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at approximately 3 p.m.: I tweet @iamkatygoodman something like, Hey, want to do a twitter interview for @Crossfade_SFL. (For whatever reason, I can't find the tweet.) And she replies:

A few days later, still no response. Goodman tweets something about the Bruise Cruise to which I responded,
She wrote back,
After several failed attempts at locking down an interview, even as late as yesterday afternoon, we gave up. But we're not bitter, and we can't wait to see what the Vivian Girls do at tonight's Bruise Cruise Kick-off Party. Let's just hope Goodman has a ride to the venue.
