Valentine's Day isn't about a lazy bouquet of flowers and a useless teddy bear. The only way you're winning this romantic day is with a heart-shaped box of croquetas from Islas Canarias. But to make this night extraspecial for your sweet thang, take your date to hear some live music, from lovey-dovey shows to straight-up dance parties. Here are the five best concerts happening Thursday, February 14.

Roosevelt. If you're looking for the ultimate Valentine's Day dance party, head to 1306. Germany's Marius Lauber — better known as singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Roosevelt — will make his Miami debut on V-Day, and you and your date won't want to miss it. Stuffy restaurants are for the uninventive anyway. Want to impress your better half but low on funds? Roosevelt has you covered. Head to his Facebook page for a chance to win a pair of tickets to the Young Romance Tour stop in Miami and two free drinks. 9 p.m. Thursday, February 14, at 1306, 1306 N. Miami Ave., Miami; 305-377-2277; 1306miami.com. Tickets cost $25 plus fees via eventbrite.com.
Miami's best-kept musical secret: Nu Deco Ensemble.

Nu Deco Ensemble Featuring Tei Shi. When it comes to celebrating Valentine's Day with the masses, there's no shortage of things to do in town. But it's not every Valentine's Day you get to spend with an ensemble New Times dubbed Miami's best-kept musical secret. Self-described as a "genre-bending orchestra," Nu Deco Ensemble will celebrate the day of love by paying tribute to the work of composers such as Jessica Meyer, Nina Simone, and Nu Works Initiative inaugural winners Holly Harrison and Tanner Porter. But the secret sauce will be a special guest performance by "Bassically" singer-songwriter Tei Shi. Don't feel like spending Valentine's Day with a bunch of love-drunk fiends? The show runs for three nights, from Thursday through Saturday. VIP tickets are already sold out, but general admission is still available. 8 p.m. Thursday, February 14, through Saturday, February 16, at the Light Box at Goldman Warehouse, 404 NW 26th St., Miami; 305-576-4350; miamilightproject.com. Tickets cost $45 plus fees via nu-deco.org.

Vince Staples. It's no secret that national tours often skip South Florida. But rapper Vince Staples' Smile, You’re On Camera Tour, which Entertainment Weekly dubbed one of the "12 can't-miss tours of 2019," is making its way to South Florida's best rock club with Compton rapper Buddy and hip-hop crew PNTHN. Some unsolicited Valentine's Day advice: Get to the venue early and snag a spot on the balcony for prime stage viewing. 8 p.m. Thursday, February 14, at Revolution Live, 100 SW Third Ave., Fort Lauderdale; 954-449-1025; jointherevolution.net. Tickets cost $28 to $128 plus fees via ticketmaster.com.

Spam Allstars Valentine's Day Special. Take a moment to consider that it's cuffing season and couples up North are probably not leaving their homes this Valentine's Day because of the cold. But Miamians don't know that struggle and probably don't even own a winter coat. Miami's funk-fusion veterans Spam Allstars want to celebrate Valentine's Day with you near the ocean at the best outdoor music venue. Spending time outdoors does the soul good, and ten bucks will get you entry to the show and one drink. 7 p.m. Thursday, February 14, at North Beach Bandshell, 7275 Collins Ave., Miami Beach; 786-453-2897; northbeachbandshell.com. Tickets cost $6.90 plus fees via rhythmfoundation.com.

Moonlight and Music Valentine's Day Concert. The easy way to celebrate V-Day is to go out to dinner and call it a night. Instead, get obnoxiously cute with your boo by setting up a blanket, lawn chairs, and a small picnic basket and cozying up under the stars at the Deering Estate. Your romantic evening will be complete with an outdoor performance by Miami's Vintash Band, whose sound blends jazz, funk, R&B, blues, Latin, world, and bossa nova. If you're a fan of the hit TV series The Voice, you'll probably recognize the band's singer, Michaela Paige, who was a contestant on the show. 7 p.m. Thursday, February 14, at Deering Estate, 16701 SW 72nd Ave., Palmetto Bay; 305-235-1668; deeringestate.org.
