There wasn't much of an underground techno scene in Miami until certain forward-thinking collectives started sprouting up at the tail end of the 2000s.
One of them was Un_Mute Miami, a party brand that's become synonymous with cutting-edge electronic dance music over the last three years.
"I've always believed that good music should be exposed to the masses, and my intention was to help make the Miami scene what it is today," Un_Mute's Benjamin Acero tells Crossfade.
"Now, any given weekend in Miami throughout the year seems like WMC, where you have good talent from Thursday to Sunday coming in, and I am glad to be a big part of it."
"The concept behind Un_Mute was and is to continue to feed Miami with nothing but quality underground electronic music, culture and events," Benjamin adds. "One of the things that sets us apart from most of the other companies who do similar events in our city, is that we keep our parties fresh by changing venue every other event. We do warehouse parties, tikki boat parties, big-room events at Parkwest, Euforia and Grand Central, intimate nights at the Electric Pickle or Eve, or day and night marathons at Villa 221 and private mansions."
And by booking techno giants the likes of Tiefschwarz, Mathew Jonson, M.A.N.D.Y., and Guy Gerber on the regular, Benjamin and company have definitely contributed to the perception that Miami is becoming a formidable underground EDM capital, and not just during WMC. So count on Un_Mute to throw down in style for their third anniversary celebrations this weekend.
The actions kicks off on Friday at The Awarehouse in Wynwood with Mathias Kaden, one of Germany's foremost techno ambassadors. But the real whopper is Saturday's double-header: the esteemed Moon Harbour label's Matthias Tanzmann and Martinez playing back-to-back.
