Ultra 2019 Phase Two Lineup: Dog Blood, Eric Prydz, Sophie, and Others

With about two months to go until Ultra Music Festival makes its debut on Virginia Key, the dance-music bacchanal has dropped its phase two lineup. This round has added acts like Eric Prydz, Dog Blood (Skrillex and Boys Noize), Gigantic Nghtmre, and former Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello.

They join an already supersized lineup that includes Tiësto, Marshmello, Deadmau5, Odesza, Martin Garrix, and Richie Hawtin.

3Lau, Getter, Ghasty, K?d, Malaa, Nero, Oliver Heldens, Svdden Death, and Tchami are just some of the acts in the supporting lineup. And the Resistance stage gets an added boost with Art Department, Coyu, Erick Morillo, Hot Since 82, Joris Voorn, Matador, and Nic Fanciulli.

Ultra also announced its curated stage lineup, which this year includes A State of Trance (Armin van Buuren), Foreign Family Collective (Odesza), Mau5trap (Deadmau5), Play Differently (Richie Hawtin), and Stmpd (Martin Garrix).

When phase one was announced, New Times pointed out the lack of women on Ultra's lineup. And while phase two doesn't exactly boost the overall numbers of women behind the decks, perhaps someone over at the festival saw the recommendation to add Sophie — who is up for Best Dance/Electronic Album at this year's Grammys for her debut, Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides — because she's joined the Ultra roster. If women are scarce on the festival's bill, transgender women are even more so, with Honey Dijon the only other previous transgender performer at Ultra who comes to mind.

(New Times also mentioned Peggy Gou, but seeing how she's set to appear at this year's III Points, there's probably a contractual obligation that won't allow that to happen.)

Either way, good work Ultra, but more should be done to include women performers at Ultra events, beyond just being an Ultra Angel. It would be pretty amazing to see Miami's homegrown dance-music event become a pioneer in this and show other EDM festivals it can be done.
