If you ask us, it takes melodies and hooks to truly distinguish a dance track and give it the kind of timelessness imbued in the baroque cosmic disco sound that Norwegian DJ-producer Todd Terje has been bringing back since the mid-noughties.

Terje isn't the most prolific of producers, with only a handful of EPs and disco edits under his belt. But it's quality and not quantity that counts.

Standouts like the Ragysh and It's The Arps EPs have garnered universal praise for their lush, melodious analog synth arrangements. And it doesn't hurt that he counts releases on Running Back and Permanent Vacation, two of the most bellowed nu-disco labels on the international scene.

Perhaps most impressive, though, is Todd Terje the selector. His DJ sets run the full gamut of crowd-pleasing floor sounds, from funk and soul to disco and house. No surprise for a crate-digging groove guru of his caliber, and it should make him right at home at the Electric Pickle when he throws down with Nightdrive Miami on May 24.

Todd Terje with Laura of Miami and Patrick Walsh, presented by Nightdrive Miami. Thursday, May 24. Electric Pickle, 2826 N. Miami Ave., Miami. The show starts at 10 p.m. Call 305-456-5613 or visit electricpicklemiami.com.
