Don't call it a comeback. Because the Deftones never left. And avoid using the term "rap metal." Because this band detests musical subgenres.
Instead, celebrate the fact that this crew is still tearing the tits off music venues, like the Fillmore Miami Beach, with the same Adrenaline levels as 25 years ago.
"We have always done our own thing," Deftones drummer Abe Cunningham said in an interview with CMJ last month. "Things have changed. Styles have come and gone, and we are still here."

This past November, the Deftones dudes released their seventh studio record, Koi No Yokan. And on April 20 (AKA Record Store Day), the group will release the first of seven special-edition live releases before heading to Japan for Ozzfest, followed by a string of headlining tour dates in Australia.
But as current bassist Sergio Vega (the fill-in for bassist Chi Cheng, who was critically injured in a car accident in 2008; he is still slowly recovering) shared in a recent interview with New Jersey alt weekly The Aquarian, the Deftones thrives off a busy schedule.
"Playing shows, for us, is a lot of fun," he said. "Traveling and being away from home a lot [is hard] ... But the band is a family thing ... As a unit, having that shared sacrifice makes it more thrilling because we're all really excited to be doing what we're doing ... We want to be present, be a band that plays shows and keeps writing records."
And that's exactly what the fans want too.
