There're only a handful of gin joints tough enough to survive prohibition, government raids, homeless squatters, and the crack epidemic. And Tobacco Road is one of them.
For 100 years, this charmingly grimy bar has served up cheap booze to all types of folks -- rich, poor, popular, gay, straight, corrupt, whatever -- at 626 S. Miami Avenue, the only home its ever known. Real estate investors, however, are threatening to shut the party down.
Like it is most Fridays, Tobacco Road is featured in this week's Ten Under $10 weekend guide. It's one of the few spots left in Miami that can always guarantee live music and hard drinks for a remarkably low price.
Let's hope some bullshit redevelopment doesn't change that.
