Rick Ross Charities, Inc. teamed up with Magic Johnson Burger King restaurants to kick off the 1st Annual “Rick Ross Be Out Day” Wednesday, at Miami Carol City Senior High. The concert was free, but it was incredibly hot. Luckily, Slip N Slide Records invited Miami New Times onto their bus where the A/C was pumping. We got to chill with DJ Khaled and Rick Ross, drink ice cold Vitamin water, and eat good fried chicken.
When DJ Khaled says, “305, We the best!” or “We taking over!” he means it. We spoke of his love for M-I-Yayo, which he has called home for the past fifteen years. The DJ/producer lived in Orlando before heading to Miami, but claims, “It was too small for me.”
Eventually, Rick Ross waved us over to his private room in the back of the bus. “The Boss” pointed to his Rolls Royce and his other cars parked outside of the bus as someone warned him, “You’re going on in ten minutes.”
“It really felt like a family event”, said Stephanie Stanford of BK Corp., “there was no negativity and it was really a blessing. The kids got to be kids for a day. Over a thousand kids received free school supplies, and experience hip-hop artists doing something positive in their community. The only problem was … there was not enough water.”
