"I'm ready to fight this thing."

That's how Bingo Players' Paul Baümer took on his unexpected and devastating cancer diagnosis last summer. But sadly, though he showed great courage and admirable resilience, the Dutch DJ-producer passed away on December 17, 2013.

Now, in Baümer's memory, the fight continues. And next month in Miami, his Bingo Players partner, Maarten Hoogstraten, and music manager Toby Benson, as well as many other EDM-scene supporters will take part in the inaugural Remembrance Festival.

Taking place during Winter Music Conference and Miami Music Week, Remembrance will feature "some of dance music's biggest and brightest stars," the festival's official announcement states, "com[ing] together at the Ice Palace in Miami to help raise funds for cancer research."

"Remembrance is, in its meaning, the action of remembering someone," Benson, the festival organizer, says in a statement. "To me, dance music has always symbolized a certain vitality, energy and celebration of life. To combine both the forward-looking celebration and the remembering of things past for a positive purpose makes it all the more powerful.

"Many people are dealing with cancer on a daily basis," he adds, "and I hope we can create an environment where people can share their stories, celebrate the memory of those that have passed and the life we thankfully still have."

Remembrance Festival. Thursday, March 27. Ice Palace Studios, 1400 N. Miami Ave., Miami. The event begins at 10 p.m. and tickets go on sale Tuesday, February 11, via wantickets.com. A portion of proceeds will benefit Paul Baümer's preferred charity, KWF Kankerbestrijding (Dutch Cancer Society), as well the American Cancer Society. Ages 21 and up.
