Breakbeat, Latin, progressive house and folkloric deconstruction are but a few of the terms used to describe LA-based electro outfit, Palenke Soultribe's music. I like folkloric deconstruction best. It's a description that bears razor-fine precision. And it reminds me of Top Chef, minus the foams and emulsions. The trio is comprised of two Columbian producers by the names of Insectosound, Popa and drummer/percussionist Andres Zuluaga, whose parents apparently couldn't come up with as colorful a moniker as his future bandmates'.

Four years after the group's inception, Palenke Soultribe has already earned critical acclaim, thrilling critics and fans alike with their creative use of Afro-Columbian rhythms over modern, underground electronica, and won an award in the Dance/Electronica category of the Independent Music Awards for their 2007 debut Tropic an Heaven.  This year saw the release of their sophomore effort ORO, a slick progression in the otherwise uncharted waters they began to navigate on their first record.

Catch them live in Miami this week when the L.Aliens come to the Magic City for a little Transit-style fun.

Palenke Soultribe performs live at Transit Lounge (729 SW 1 Ave) this Saturday, October 3. No cover.
