What do you get when you cross a Miami house music legend like Murk's Oscar G. with a next-generation Miami house wunderdude like Lazaro Casanova? You get the dance floor-quaking Miami powerhouse of Futro.
The homies Oscar and Lazaro have been working together on and off for a few years now, even having released 2010's collaborative Tropicasa EP -- named after their weekly party at Little Havana's Hoy Como Ayer.
But Futro sees the two partnering up under a fresh duo identity, complete with a monthly DJ residency at Bardot, their own weekly radio show on Klangbox.FM, and even Futro's debut, Why EP, which just dropped on Nervous Records today.

"Futro came about basically as a vehicle for ideas we were working on together," Oscar and Lazaro tell Crossfade. "We both have very distinct styles on our own that make for very interesting collaboration possibilities. We both share a love for classic '90s house stuff, but are also big on more current forward-thinking sounds.
"On the DJ front, we tend to cover the full scope of house music, as well as some disco, hip-hop, nu-wave, guaguancó, and beyond. We see our Futro shows as an opportunity to cover a wide range of music we normally would not on our own."
As for Futro's new Why EP, it's pretty much what you'd expect from these two -- meaning fans of Oscar and Lazaro's individual production styles will not be disappointed.
But then, Futro's sound is bigger than the sum of its parts. And in a way, it shows our homegrown Miami house music coming full circle, with one of its old-school pioneers and one of its new-school ambassadors joining forces to spawn the Miami house music of the future. Or in this case, the Futro.
"We like to say it's 'past, present, and future classics,'" say Oscar and Lazaro. "In the
studio we bring the same musical diversity into the equation and tend to come up with a completely different feel than we would otherwise.
"There isn't a specific sound we are working towards, it's more about the inspiration that comes from us working together on ideas. We have no clue where this thing is going!"
