The fall season is here! Yay!
"Why 'yay?'" you ask. Well in addition to bringing cooler temperatures and hurricane season coming to an end soon, it seems like nightclubs and promoters are waking up from their summer hibernation. The only thing that might rain on this nightlife parade is the state of our economy, but lets hope we can all weather the storm.
So drink to your shrinking 401(k), because here is what the weekend has in store for you:
Nine years ago Blue (222 Espanola Way, Miami Beach) opened to cater to South Beach locals who were quickly seeing relic dance institutions being replaced by a European-imported craze called "bottle service." However, Blue insisted keeping drink prices low and kept fostering local house DJs by giving them a place to spin. So celebrate nine years of go against the "norm" with DJs Strickly B, Will Renuart, Major, Way, Baby Sean and Inbal on the decks and open bar from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Hercules & Love Affair have quickly risen to the top of the indie playlist after being signed to DFA and on the strength of the single "Blind." So when the The Vagabond (30 NE 14th Street, Miami) nabbed them for this Saturday's Back Door Bamby party it seemed too good to be true -- it sort of was. The group's appearance will only be a DJ set, which means that probably only DJ/producer Andrew Butler will show up. But if you love the group's proggy-disco sound, rest assured Butler will deliver.
Hipster meme Steve Aoki will also be in town Saturday, spinning at Cameo (1445 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach) of all places. Then again, in Hollywood, his Dim Mak parties, as underground as they want to seem, attract a slew of A-listers and bored socialites. So check out the Kid Millionaire as he brings his mixture of indie rock, classic rock, electro and hip-hop to the South Beach set.
Keep the partying going well after the sun rises and stop by Space (34 NE 11th Street, Miami) to see the return of terrace staple Cedric Gervais, who has been touring all summer long. Along with resident DJ Patrick M, say goodbye once and for all to the summer slumber and properly welcome the fall season.
