Miami's Torche remains one of the most unique heavy bands ever, melding catchy, melodic vocals with a bludgeoning, slack-stringed guitar assault and drumming that has more in common with the sounds of a mortar assault than rock music.
The resulting sounds are as potent as they are unique, which may perhaps be a part of the reason why the group has never stayed at a record label for too long.
However, the band announced yesterday that it will join the ranks of Relapse Records' roster of heavy music luminaries for its impending follow up to 2012's critically acclaimed Harmonicraft.

In a press release, Torche bassist/producer, Jon Nuñez, wrote:
"We're looking forward to working with a label that has stood the test of time while continuing to expand their diverse roster," adding that "releasing this record on Relapse lined up pretty well since it contains some of the heaviest songs we've written to date."
We here at Crossfade spoke with frontman and guitarist, Steve Brooks, who says, "We're all excited about this new record and our future working with Relapse. It's a good match for what we do." He describes the new material as "another bipolar Torche album."
The band is currently recording at Pinecrust Studios in Miami with Nuñez handling the album's production. Converge guitarist and God City Studios owner, Kurt Ballou, is slated to mix the record, which is planned for a summer release.
Torche has also announced a celebratory, post-recording show, on February 26 at St. Vitus Bar in New York, for all of the South Florida expatriates currently enjoying Brooklyn and its snow.
