More big ups to big-timers who hail from the 305.
Creative studio Elastic People earned themselves a Latin Grammy nod last week in the category of Best Music Video for their directorial work on Ricky Martin's "Lo Mejor de Mi Vida Eres Tu," the lead single off his most recent album, Música + Alma + Sexo. And because Ricky's actually an MIA native himself, double big ups for this nom.
Aside from the obvious nomination excitement, though, director Carlos Perez voices further cause for enthusiasm, "That the Latin Recording Academy and industry colleagues considered and selected a music video that -- away from over the top post-production effects or controversy -- shares a 'simple' message of equality is really a blessing.
"From the get-go, Ricky wanted it to be about people, about a message of equality," Perez says. "You equals Me and Tú equals Yo was the idea. More than a music video, it was really about creating a musical campaign."
Perez's design studio has been collaborating with Martin for some eight years now, lending his keen eye and unique point of view to everything from video sequences for his tour to album covers to music videos.
"Working with Ricky is always an interesting creative challenge," Perez says. "He is very involved in the process and contributes from start to finish. The integrity of the artistic expression is always the priority."
